After completing my training as a qualified nurse, I briefly gained experience in Kenya, Africa, and then moved to Germany

I worked there for 7 years, including in the intensive care unit at Hanover City Hospital. And since March of this year I have been working and living in Bern, Switzerland. In the large university hospital in the department for Intermediate Care. The languages I speak are Italian and German.

What kind of training did you receive in your home country?

At the beginning of my career, I studied sociology and theater school in Italy. However, this was not the field in which I wanted to work and develop further. In 2010, I therefore decided to study for a Bachelor's degree in nursing.

What kind of work ethic are you used to in your home country?

As I mentioned before, I haven't worked much as a nurse in Italy, but if my Italian friends who work in healthcare are to be believed, there are many differences between working in Italy and in Switzerland.

What I can say about working in Switzerland and what I really like is the respectful interaction between nurses and patients, but also between the nurses themselves. Here, your work is recognized and the patient takes you seriously as a professional and listens to the treatment plan.

"In a personal meeting with Brigit Friedrich from Swiss HRmed, I was very well informed about what this means and what it takes to make the move to Switzerland."

Looking back on the work experience I gained during my internships, work in Italy is mostly chaotic due to the increased work pressure and lack of staff. So you learn to be creative with your time and prioritize, but whether this benefits the quality of care is questionable. I am therefore used to dealing with stressful situations and can improvise when I am confronted with new situations.

After working in Germany for seven years, I was curious about starting a career in Switzerland.  In a personal meeting with Brigit Friedrich from Swiss HRmed, I was very well informed about what this means and what it takes to make the move to Switzerland.

Brigit helped me to find my current job in Bern and was also my contact for other questions about insurance, housing, etc. The contact was always very personal and I was able to turn to Swiss HRmed with all my questions.

Working in Switzerland has made me very precise and a perfectionist. The quality of care here is highly regarded and is carried out according to proven protocols. My daily goal is therefore to maintain and pursue this high quality of care.

It took a bit of time, but now I feel very much at home in Switzerland. I found it difficult to settle in at first, but that varies from person to person. For example, I am a bit shy by nature and found it difficult to interact with the Swiss, even though they are very nice and take time for you. It's simply a challenge to speak in a language other than your mother tongue, especially if you don't speak it well yet. Ultimately, I can now say that I have found my home here in Switzerland.

I have everything I always wanted. A job that gives me a good living. I know it doesn't seem like much, but I'm from Italy and for us it really is a lot. I am aware that things can be different and I have worked hard to build a better future for myself.

Swiss HRmed's contribution to my emigration to Switzerland was very great, so I came to Switzerland without fear and felt completely looked after.

Working in such a multicultural country makes it possible to get to know different nations - their languages, mentalities and ways of communicating. It is very inspiring.
